Simon's Town
Simon's Town, originally Simon's Vlek, was named after the Dutch Governor Simon van der Stel, who governed the Cape Colony between 1677 and 1699.
Situated on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula, Simons Town is an important Naval Base which was established back in 1806 under the second British occupation of the Cape. In 1957 the Naval Base was handed over to the South African Government.
