The Garden Route is a popular and scenic stretch of the south-eastern coast of South Africa. It stretches from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to the Storms River.
The name comes from the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast.It includes towns such as Mossel Bay, Knysna ( South Africa's oyster capital ), Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley; with George - the Garden Route's largest city and main administrative centre.

Plettenberg Bay
Plettenberg Bay is one of the most glamorous holiday destinations in South Africa. Set in the heart of the Garden Route, it is blessed with a wealth of natural assets that make it a perfect holiday spot.
The early Portuguese explorers called it "baia formosa" or the beautiful bay. When Joachim van Plettenberg, Governor of the Cape, arrived in 1778, he was so taken by the natural beauty of the bay, he named it after himself.
Today Plett is one of South Africa's premier tourist destinations. It has some of the best beaches in South Africa "Getaway Magazine".
Knysna
Knysna is one of the Garden Route´s best known travel destinations and was recently named one of the Top 100 Destinations in the World in the TripAdvisor 2008 Travellers’ Choice Destinations Awards.
The Knysna area consists of Knysna, Sedgefield, Brenton, Noetzie, Rheenendal, Belvidere and Buffalo Bay. Indigenous forests, fynbos, lakes, rivers, mountains and beautiful coastlines combined with a moderate climate make the Knysna area a natural Eden.
