Clifton
Clifton, known as the highlight of Cape Town's glamour spots, is located between Camps Bay and Sea Point on the Atlantic Sea Board.
To See
Its famous four beaches provide the ultimate escape for beach lovers. These small but beautiful beaches are interlinked, with giant granite boulders dividing one from the next. Each individual beach has its own peculiar identity.
The beaches are named as follows: 4th Beach, which is the is the busiest and frequented by the young and the beautiful playing volleyball, throwing frisbees and sunbathing. 3rd Beach seems to cater for the gay population of Cape Town, while 2nd Beach is the sunning spot of the young bohemians and university students of the city. 1st Beach is the least popular (but no less beautiful) than the other three.
Tips
Clifton provides shelter from summer's south-easterly wind, but cold water keeps most who visit the beaches on the shore.
Besides the cold water Clifton has the atmosphere of a Mediterranean resort as Yachts, speed boats and jet skis come and play in the bay.
Clifton has some of the most expensive properties in South Africa and some of the finest beaches to be found anywhere.
This is a great day out with the kids, and idyllic setting for sundowners and evening picnics. So go prepared with warm clothes, candles for after sunset and lots of goodies to snack on. Alcohol is not allowed on the beaches so stock up on the cold-drinks and fruit juices
